God’s Truth Never Changes
Rev. John W. Smith- Prince Albert Family Church
In the midst of change, God’s truth never changes! Here is a great paradox. God is the God who never changes and yet He is constantly doing something fresh. His character is unchangeable, what He does is ever fresh, never dull, or repetitious.
God is always looking for people who are prepared to believe in His integrity and take His Word to the limit. When God locates these people, they can alter the course of history. They are committed people. It’s not what you have, but what has you, that makes all the difference. God is eager to bless obedient people. Mr. Harvey Varley told D.L. Moody, “The world has yet to see what God can do with, and for, and through, and in, and by the man, who is fully consecrated to Him.”
The church on fire has shaken entire nations in days gone by. What are we willing to do to bring revival to our church? In Ephesians 1, the Message Bible tells us, “I ask – ask the God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God of glory – to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing Him personally, your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is He is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life He has for Christians, oh the utter extravagance of His work in us who trust Him – endless energy, boundless strength! All this energy issues from Christ: God raised Him up from death and set Him on a throne in deep heaven, in charge of running the universe, everything from galaxies to governments, no name and no power exempt from His rule. And not just for the time being, but forever. He (Jesus) is in charge of it all, has the final word on everything. At the center of all this, Christ rules the church. The church, you see, is not peripheral to the world; the world is peripheral to the church. The church is Christ’s body, in which He speaks and acts, by which He fills everything with His presence.”
The world is subject to the church. As goes the church, so goes the nation. The church is the called and the assembled of God. The church is the ecclesia, the called out ones. The purpose of being assembled is to be discipled. To be discipled means to be disciplined. A true disciple knows the truth of God’s Word and demonstrates it with joyful expectation in his heart. Discipline, coming from the Word of God, comes from the preaching of the truth in love, with the intent to elevate.
The church was never designed by God as a place to harbor rebels. Our reason for coming to church is for the equipping of the saints. The church has been chosen by God to bring revival to our nation and our world. We will never experience revival until we lay the foundation stones of repentance in our church. Repentance is key to revival.
In 2 Kings 22:11 we read about King Josiah, a godly man who repented before the people. At 22 years of age he began to rebuild the temple. When he was 26 years of age, he completed this project. When the Priests found the Word of God and brought it to him, he tore or ripped his clothes. He made all make a stand. As this king made a stand on what was right, he forced the issue of repentance and holiness.
Spurgeon gave a definition of revival: It’s when people who know God get right with God. It’s when people who don’t know Him get to know Him. Jeremiah 33:3 talks about God’s desire to reveal His ways to us, “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” God wants to reveal Himself to you, He wants us to know Him. We must cultivate an insatiable appetite for God and then we can transfer that to other people. Insatiable means incapable of being satisfied, quenchless. You cannot manufacture revival – revival is the result of prayer.
People seeking Jesus will come into contact with the supernatural power of God. We need to pursue God, and have our own personal revival so we can lead other people into their personal revival. We need to press into God. Pressing in means impassioned fervent prayer and humility, a continual reminder to yourself that you need God. Personal revival comes through relationship with God.
God’s truth never changes. We need to believe the Word of God and preach it with conviction. Acts 14:1-3 shows us the early church doing this. They gave strong testimony to God’s grace. Signs and wonders were wrought through the people. Grace is God’s power – His willingness to use His power and ability on our behalf. Grace operates by faith. Believe God and His Word. His Word is good and His mercy is never ending.
The demonstration of the supernatural power of God is not exclusive to the Five-fold Leadership Gifts. All God’s people are called to be witnesses. We need Holy Ghost boldness in our witnessing, with signs and wonders following the preaching of the Word.
God’s Word, God’s truth, works.
