Why do you teach at offering time?
For the answer to this question let’s take a look at Jeremiah 3:15…
15 and I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
Take note of what scripture says that pastors are to give to the people, knowledge and understanding. If we were to just stand up and say, “you need to bring your tithes and give offerings,” and just leave it at that we would be giving you knowledge. However, this scripture tells us that we need to do more than that. We need to feed you with understanding as well. That means we need to tell not just that you need to do these things, but how and why you do these things and the benefits.
Many Christians do things and don’t really understand the purpose so they miss those benefits. For example you may be under the impression that you need to give so that you can pay the bills of the church, and that may be a good side benefit for the church, but it is only one aspect. And the greater truth is that your giving enacts a principle we find in the Word of God called, “Seedtime and Harvest”. When you give that principle goes into effect and you have a harvest coming back to you, but if you don’t know its coming than whether or not you reap the harvest will be by chance.
It’s through the teaching of the Word that you will understand that you are getting a harvest and how to reap or receive that harvest.
One more point that we want to see here is found in chapter 23 and verse 4 of Jeremiah…
4 And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the Lord.
The great news here is that when we properly receive this knowledge and understanding from our shepherds we can live free from fear, dismay, and lack. What a benefit!
